Objectives | The project objective is to establish and run the greener fleet certification scheme (known as ‘Motorvate’) from April 2000 for three years. There is funding for two years, after which it is envisaged the scheme will have become self-financing. Development funding is needed in order to provide effective marketing and promotion of the scheme, which is considered essential to attract a good range of fleets and to cover the initial shortfall of running costs whilst membership i s building up. The contract is for three years, with an option to extend for a further three years. DTLR will continue to have a strategic and monitoring role after the scheme has become self-financing.
Abstract | Building on the work of the original greener fleet certification scheme project (S9917/TA), this project set up 'Motorvate' a government-backed award scheme. Aimed at company car fleets, it sets simple targets that lead to improvements in fuel efficiency and a reduction in fleet mileage, reducing costs. Furthermore, this leads to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, which will form the basis of company car taxation from 2002. Certification will be awarded on a 'five-star' points system, depending on progress towards achieving the scheme targets.
